Path of Exile Item Upgrades

The performance of a variety of Path of Exile items can be improved by upgrading the performance of them. They can be a great source of additional damage, more AD or even more attaches.

Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade equipment due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be applied to weapons and armor items. They increase the effectiveness of the item they're connected to. Armor upgrades are found in the game's world and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items that have upgrade components within them by with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it is able to absorb. The absorption of damage by a piece armor will increase when it is upgraded to the highest upgrade level. But, it's important to keep in mind that this will increase its weight, which will cause it to be heavier than before.

There are many different kinds of armor upgrades available in the game. Each has a different impact. For example, some upgrades will give the armor a certain number of additional health points, while others will make it lighter and stronger. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade that an item will receive, as shown below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which are identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Furthermore, some upgrades require charges to use, which is indicated by an "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges associated with these upgrades refresh every day or never expire, according to the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest option to upgrade your armor. You can locate it by exploring and looting small chests. Titanium is more expensive however it is obtainable from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. The player must be aware that upgrading a piece up to the maximum upgrade level can increase its defense value. However, it will also affect the speed and agility of the piece. It is not recommended to upgrade armor beyond +9. The boost in defense usually isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of specific aspects of the weapon. Upgrades can boost the accuracy of a rifle, or the damage caused by shotgun shells. Certain firearms also have enhancements that enhance their intrinsic characteristics. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the possibility of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed for greater damage) are two examples.

Most weapon upgrades require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade. These can be obtained by finishing side quests, killing a certain number of monsters or bosses or through the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.

Upgrading a Weapon, Equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade fee that is based on a specific number of Bars. The more bars needed to complete an upgrade, the more advanced the level. The cost of the upgrades will be lower if you have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your weapon and equipment sets changed a little. Previously you could search for an Upgrade Bench and pay a certain amount of Bars to upgrade your weapon or equipment to a higher level of rarity. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level, at which point the upgrades would reset.

You can still do this but the process is based on RNG and low on agency. Instead, you're much better off visiting stores and buying equipment with low upgrade levels but good base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a better chance of bringing you the highest tier perks and blessings.

Most players will want to prioritize upgrades to the weapons they use most frequently to make sure they are able to level up quicker. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R, which will increase its utility when paired with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

They can be made through an process known as jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gem and various chemicals at a table. The higher the quality of the gem, the greater the secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or through salvaging Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms.

The Jeweler can boost the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The boosts to stats will differ depending on the tier the jewel is in when it's inserted into jewelry, weapons or gear.

All levels of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a sufficient level to obtain these. Jewels can be replaced by another jewel without damaging the original. You are able to replace the jewel once in an item of equipment.

Utilizing more jewels in the movement will make it more smooth, and is often used to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels can also enhance performance and create a harder surface than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to them.

In addition to the above upgrades players can also get glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. They offer a small benefit and are able to be swapped easily however they aren't guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs, like jewelry, can be upgraded at the Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Crystals and gold. Glyphs are also removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits and aegis cannot be swapped out, and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.
